Our story

As academic ophthalmologists and anterior segment specialists, the limitations of modern ophthalmology have been the core research for Dr. Romano and Dr. Steger for years.

During their joint research at Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital, UK, they worked on developing novel concepts for tele-ophthalmology.

Sharing their ideas with Giulia Angi and Ulrich Hausmann, Occyo was founded in Innsbruck, Austria.

Ulrich brings to the team engineering expertise in the field of optical systems, after years at Carl Zeiss and more recently in startups in the optical sensor space.

Finally, Giulia covers the business aspects of the enterprise, thanks to her experience at Google and her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Besides the engagement of the founders, during the last few years, Team Occyo has grown with professionals from various fields. Together we make a strong team that is creating innovative solutions to change the world of ocular surface imaging in the future.
